I love them, and so does Emma. She especially enjoys the Old MacDonald one. They are all about 1/2 hour long so they are good to keep baby happy while you fix supper, etc.

PS All that said, I am not a super mom that believes babies must be carried around all day and constantly entertained by you.

My twins who are now four years old loved them. We watched them together most of the time and I would talk about them while things were happening. They did learn to name animals/things on the farm/shapes and colors and do some sign language from the two signing videos we have. While I wouldn't leave a kid alone in front of them all the time, I think that if the parent watches it with them and then reinforces the information with real-world things they can learn from them.

My 5 month baby girl and I like the lullaby video. I put it on in the background while I get her ready for the night. The music and images are soothing and I will sometimes sit in the rocker holding her, rocking her while it is on. I also read to her prior so I get lots of time with her. I see no problem using it as a wind down at the end of the day. We do lots of one on one play during the day, I don't just leave her in front of it at night either that's all. I am not sure about the effects on her but I like them because they are calming for her. When I am busy with supper also she will play on her floor mat with the baby van gogh one in the background- she plays and then watches, plays some and watches some, it often makes her laugh so I know she is enjoying it. For me if she is enjoying it and there is no harm to it, which do believe to be the case, then a short while is okay.

Personally, I think the only one who benefits is mom when her kid needs to be occupied so she can cook dinner. ;) My daughter was never into them. I don't blame her; they are the most mind numbingly dull videos on the planet. It is not recommended that kids under 2 years old watch ANY tv. But, like with most things, moderation is a good guide. If it wasn't for Max and Ruby, I'd never be able to cook dinner myself.

Do they do anything positive?

Probably not.

But if you want a few minutes occasionally to do something while your kids are occupied, they probably don't do any harm either.

Your baby learns best from you, and from experience. Not from watching a screen. Never, ever use a video as a substitute for quality time with your kids.

No, more harm than good. It is best to keep your children away from T.V. until 2 years of age. However I know that not every mom can do this, not even I, so if you decide to put something on for them try sesame street- the only tv show proven to show results. But if you cant do that these are fine too.
