Question by Poppy: Has anybody had success with the Baby Einstein videos?
I was thinking about getting them for my 5 month old son.
Do they actually make your kid smarter?
I watched one and it kind of looked like brainwashing lol.

My little cousins, now ages 4-9, watched them throughout infancy and they are all dumber than soup.
Watching videos with colorful shapes and dialogue in different languages is probably fun for your baby, but you need to teach him colors, shapes, and languages in order for him to learn them.
What do you think? Answer below!

I would make my sister put the music on here tummy when she was pregnant with her second son, and we played it till he was a 4months old! now he watches the dvds and he love them! he reconizes all the songs and chercters. He’s three now and he is smarter then his cousins he learned to go to the bathroom at 1 year 8 months and he already knows how to count to twenty and his abc’s! I love thos movies for little kids!
Well, I don’t think they actually make your child smarter. Though brain stimulation can increase how easily a child learns knew things, in my experience. My 4 year old son and 3 year old daughter really like the Einstein Videos. We use the flash cards to work on reading and learning colors, etc. But you can just as easily make your own!
I’m not sure that I understand how they could be brainwashing though…
EDIT – While the videos alone are probably entertaining for children, YOU have to actually work with your child. They won’t learn just from watching the videos. Use educational games, flash cards, make ABC’s and counting into games. Young children can learn more than we give them credit for. The important thing it to make it fun for them.
my 27 mo daughter watches one once in a while…. i’d not say that they make your kid smarter, but rather a nice way to give mommy some much needed time to finish up some task around the house…
i’d definitely not recommend you sit your 5mo in front a video for 30 min. .. instead, you could show him a vocabulary book and let him stare at the images of the book…
Yes they are successful i believe my grandson is 3 and he is smarter than a whip, although could be just in the jeans but my daughter swears by them

Research shows that baby einstein dvds actually lower your child’s IQ…
I love the Baby Einstein videos and it is the only thing that really has the ability to hold my daughters attention. She has been watching them since 3 months while we do tummy time.
I don’t know about it making her smarter, I didn’t buy it for that purpose.
The one I bought just shows babies crawling, walking, rolling..with classical music and the occasional puppet show.
I recommend them, but not for the purpose of “trying to make your baby smarter”
I wouldn’t say it made them smarter…but they are alright for little kids.
My son loves them.He is advanced for his age but I also used the baby plus prenatal education system and your baby can read with him as well.
all things should be taught from parent to child. He see’s the violence and sex on the television. Please do not let him watch those. Please. Let him listen to music. Let him read. Let him play and ask questions. Do not let him watch television.
