I was reading that when a divorce occurs between two celebs, an accountant calculates the worth of “celebrity.” Then the famous spouse must buy out the other spouse’s half of the joint ownership of the “celebrity” as if it were a home, business, or any other real asset. This led me to question if anyone collects royalties when people sell posters and action figures of einstein, mozart, etc.

I don’t think there are royalties to pay in this case. Music, patents, trademark all have a legal life to it. As time goes by, you don’t need to pay royalty. Don’t know if you remember it was in the news that some old songs from Bing Cosby are coming off from royalty stream. (may be music is 17 or 20 years).
