Question by chris: My baby girl is one year and a month. How can I help her develop her brain.?
She loves her baby einstein and I read to her about twice a week ( which i know is not enough). Is there some toys that she could play with that will help her learn more than me teaching her things.
Basically I need more Ideas to keep her occupied and learning.

Oh daddy, there are so many things that are right in front of you. Your kitchen pots and pans for motor skills. Banging them together. Put socks on the end of the spoons to help with the noise. Singing to her. She wont care if you are on key or not. Sing her eyes, nose, mouth, etc. Show her everything and tell her what it is. Soft, hard, hot cold Etc. Toys that make music and have lights can keep her attention, but look for the ones that have the educational value also. She is going to learn best from you however. The more involved, the more she’ll learn. Start now, she is going to be ready for school in no time and will need your teachings more so. Good Luck and Congratulations.
What do you think? Answer below!

Well, its too early to teach her the piano and chess…(two of the best things in life to exercise “both” sides of the brain in young children), so, reading to her is the best thing, then record your voice while reading a story and play that for her, so that she will get interested in reading…Or, record a video of you reading, and she can watch “Daddy” reading a good book even when you are not there!
Things that exercise the mind and digits are the best thing now, something that ‘connects’ her with using her hands and senses, tactile qualities so she connects to her World.
I wish you well…

Basically any toys that are interactive. The baby leap frog toys are good, but they are pretty expensive. Babies are so eager to learn and explore new things that they can learn from anything really. One way to develop her speech is to say the word for things before giving them to her. For example say “juice” when giving her a cup of juice, or “cracker” when giving her a cracker, etc. This will help her to learn the proper terms for things. The simple fact that you are asking this question shows that you care a lot about your daughter and her development. Just keep doing what you are doing and I am sure she will turn out great!
Read to her. Lots. Keep the TV turned off (or use it sparringly). Talk to her – even a one year old will be listening and sucking all the information you can give her. Take her out lots and show her things. And read to her some more.
The best things to do to stimulate a toddler’s brain is going to require you to be interactive with her. Baby Einstein videos are not the answer.
There are a lot of things you can do:
Expose her to new environments (take her to the park, the pool, the museum, storytime at the library, Kindermusik class).
Sing songs and play games together (peek-a-boo, Ring Around the Rosie, Wheels on the Bus, etc.)
Talk to her – constantly. Explain every detail of what you are doing: We’re making toast and jelly. First we’re going to get the bread. Then we’re going to toast it in the toaster. When the toast is done you can get. (Let her get the toast and put it on a plate). Then we’re going to get the jelly. You get to pick the kind you want. (Ask her which flavor she wants and let her choose it from the fridge)….you get the idea.
Find educational toys such as puzzles that have shapes and colors, etc. Melissa and Doug make great educational toys without pesky batteries and annoying sounds and lights.
Read, read, READ to her! Take her to the library and pick out books together. My son loves to be read to. Even if it’s the back of a cereal box.
As you can see, the best thing to do to stimulate her brain is to involve her in everything you do. It’s not just about keeping her occupied, it’s about challenging her and exposing her to her enviornment.
Great ideas, But you forget the essencial to develop a child brain is healthy food and adults (parents) interaction, talk with her play with her and read more to her, no toy in the market is better than mom and dad.
If the only option is the toys in the market I recommend the toys from leapfrog and classic music while she plays with her toys.
