The AAP recommends no TV whatsoever for babies under 2 years. I think that’s unwarranted. You don’t need to use a TV as a babysitter, but I would watch some programs of my own with my baby on my lap. I watched way more TV than any kid should have growing up, and aside from being a couch potato, show no wear for the worse. My vocabulary was quite good at a young age, actually.
Baby Einstein is relaxing and kind of pretty, but it doesn’t make babies smarter. Babies learn from everything. A Scrubbing Bubbles commercial would teach him as much.

I have a hard time keeping my 4 month old from trying to watch tv. I know, I know, I’m the mom, but I just mean, if the tv is on, he’s trying to look at it no matter which direction I turn him. My dr has told me at every appointment not to let him watch tv. Today at my son’s checkup I finally remembered to ask him why. He told me the AAP says it stimulates only the right side of the brain (which he dumbed down for me & said “& that’s not good.” Didn’t go into anymore details). He also said “they” say it can cause ADHD. He hasn’t seen any studies to confirm that himself but that is what “they” say. He told me he honestly wasn’t sure if he believed that. Not enough research.
