He was the first to say that it is possible, with the advent of his equation of E=MC2. That Mass can be turned into massive amounts of energy. Thats pretty much they only thing that he contributed, he later wanted to take make all that he contributed.

well adding on to what your first answer said he also pushed the president to begin his own nuclear progam without him we most likely would be ash right now.
Einstein’s theory of relativity made it possible to calculate the amount of energy a given mass is equivalent to. Atomic energy involves the fusion of large atoms like Uranium and Plutonium into smaller atoms. However, the sum of the mass of the smaller atoms is not equal to the mass of the starting material. This difference in mass is lost as pure energy, and Einstein’s E=MC^2 formula allowed engineers to use atomic energy for the first time. Oppenheimer was the chief engineer in the construction of the first American atomic bomb. This might have come about because of a letter from Einstein to president Truman suggesting the war with Japan might be ended quickly by using nucleur energy as a weapon of mass destruction. Oppenheimer headed a secret government project known as “manhatten” and oversaw the construction of two atomic devices based on hydrogen fusion. This ended the war, but Oppenheimer became disillusioned with atomic weapons and became an outspoken critic of the government. This lead to his banishment from the scientific community and he turned to ranching cattle. Meanwhile, Einstein labored the rest of his life to describe gravity in terms of the 4 other fundamental forces in physics. He never succeeded and the effort continues into modern times.
