Just what he said–that it’s a marvel we’ve figured out so much, and that we live in such a neat and orderly universe that we can do so.

This is rather a trite statement since if this weren’t the case I doubt if there would be people hanging around to make it. Einstein of course was stating that he thought it was rather odd that the universe was ordered in such a way that people could actually comprehend it. But does expressing something with a bunch of complicated math really mean that you comprehend it? It only means that you can paint an abstract picture of what you observe, to the best that your mathematical tools can handle, but that there is no direct connection between the two. No real comprehension since there is no gurantee that the mathematics being used are even capable of describing what it is you are observing. And in the end, there will never be comprehension because the most fundamental things about the universe are beyond comprehension. Ask yourself: why can’t things travel faster than the speed of light? Why quantum mechanics? Uncertainty? And thousands of other things. Ask a physicist and see if they can give you an answer. And even if they can, ask why about the answer.
