Question by LaJaqueeneisha: Albert Einstein believed in God, so why do so many people in this world not?
Einstein was a Christian and believed in God here is a quote:
“I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know his thoughts. The rest are details.”

How could people choose not to believe in God when so many intelligent people do? Are atheists just closed-minded or something?

Einstein didn’t believe in the judeo-xtian bs… he valued the mystical experience, the experience which your religions forbid you from having.
The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed. It was the experience of mystery — even if mixed with fear — that engendered religion. A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, our perceptions of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty, which only in their most primitive forms are accessible to our minds: it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute true religiosity. In this sense, and only this sense, I am a deeply religious man.
Albert Einstein
And of course by God you mean YOUR god, because all of the other ones are just made up nonsense, right?
Appeal to authority fail.
Einstein believed in Spinoza’s God.
“I believe in Spinoza’s God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with fates and actions of human beings.”
In fact, here’s what he thought about the Bible:
“The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.”
einstein was raised a jew and was most properly a pantheist–he didn’t believe in the evil psychotic mass murdering monster you do.
appeal to authority fallacy, your quote doesn’t make him a christian…
a true open-minded person isn’t gullible… a true open-minded person questions everything before making a decision and their position isn’t firm, it can change in light of new evidence…
you must doubt before you can begin to comprehend
Again, another brilliant mind being quoted out of context or is it that the creationists brain is so simple that they can’t understand sarcasm when they see it and they truly think Einstein was saying he believed in a personal god here?
Einstein made it clear throughout his writings that he rejected Christianity.
Feel good to lie for Jesus?
And Einstein was a trained physicist, not a philosopher. Why should I care his opinions on anything but physics?
Einstein was JEWISH, fool!
And anyways, as he became more into science, he stopped being religious.
Einstein was a pantheist. You = fail.
for the 10,000th time, no he did not. He is using God metaphorically. Just read his Biography.
Actually Einstein believed more in the Indian God than he did the Bible so do not use him as a Christian in our argument against the atheists.
Einstein was a jew
“Believing in God” wont save anyone. Only Jesus can! =)
Jesus is God and the only way into heaven. Please pray a sincere prayer with all of your heart admitting to Jesus you are a sinner. Have full faith that His blood pays off all of your sins and accept His gift of everlasting life. I pray that God blesses you with peace. Amen.
“It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.” From a letter Einstein wrote in English, dated 24 March 1954.
“A man’s ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.”
Hmm, really he doesn’t seem as you said. Interesting huh?
i dont believe in einstein
They’re closed-minded and want to see everything that exists rather than look for things that prove that God exists.
You already asked this today, dearie.
did you not like the answers the first time you asked this? The “god” Einstein believed in was not a deity, but the mystery of the universe.
He also believed that nothing in the universe could be random and that god had to know the future. Trying to prove that god existed and that he knew the future was something that Einstein spent the last years of his life doing.
He was wrong though.
Stephen Hawking is an Agnostic. Why aren’t you? Are you just close minded?
He didn’t believe in God, he believed there was a god i.e. a supreme being/creator — major difference
Einstein was not a Christian.
I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it. (Albert Einstein, 1954)
i should believe in god becuase albert believed in god
well richard dawkins doesn’t believe in god so shouldn’t you not believe in god also
Einstein was not Christian.
I don’t believe in something just because a really smart guy says so. I like to think on my own and wait for something to be proven with facts. That is something Einstein would respect.
If Einstein said god was one billion percent fake would you give up your religion?
He used god as a metaphor,he didn’t believe in a personal god, most intelligent people don’t believe in a god.
Einstein did not believe in a personal, anthropomorphic god.
He believed in god as a creative force, not as an actual entity.
But, that is all immaterial. Lots of intelligent people believe in god(s). Just because an idea is popular has no bearing on whether its true or not.
There is no evidence for the existence of any supernatural phenomena, including deities.
A Christian?
Just how high are you, exactly?
Because God is a mean Kid with a magnifying Glass jk I dont know I believe in God but when someone I love Dies , I stopped believing but later on I start again . Many non believers start to believe in him because they need a Person to ask for a miracle in time of despair.
first: being religious since you were a child can make it hard to get rid of as an adult and fear also prevents people from leaving their religion.
second: that doesn’t necessarily mean he believed. he states her wants to find out how god did what people claim he did… i’d like to know that too if he is real i’d like to speak with him to find out why he made us and so on.
My Friend, Einstein was agnosticc.
He used god as a metaphor for the mystery he tried to unravel
Assuming you assertion that he was a Christian was true (and it isn’t), why would I care?
So many intelligent people don’t share your beliefs, so why do you still believe?
Please stop lying on behalf of Christians, you’re only doing them a disservice.
Pythagoras believed in Zeus and the Greek Pantheon of gods. He was one of the smartest people who ever lived. Why don’t you believe in the same gods he did? Are you just closed-minded or something?
Or (gasp!) have you concluded that Zeus and the Greek Pantheon of gods is rather silly because there’s no evidence to show they’re real, and you’re not going to believe in them even though one of the smartest people that ever lived did…?
Peace.
Einstein was not a devout Christian. He believed in Intelligent Design, not Creation.
If you really want to show Atheists the love of Christ, start by not calling them close-minded.
There are thousands of different religions in this world. Each one has their own god. Each human being is made different. No one is exactly alike. We all think different, see different, hear different. There’s no proof that your God exists, but there’s no proof that he doesn’t exist. It’s one of those things that each person has to figure out for themselves. And since we all think different, we’re all going to have different opinions.
I just hope you’re honestly interested in why so many people don’t believe in your God and you’re not just trying to convince more people that your God is real. A lot of times, Christians tend to be close minded people. I guess if you really want to know why so many people don’t believe in your God, think about why you believe in your God and then try to think of some reasons why people might not believe in your God. For some people, they just can’t understand how something could just always be and how something could create an entire world in just 7 days. For others, they say the Bible contradicts itself.
For me, I believe in a higher power… I don’t know if it is necessarily the same God you believe in, but I do believe that we were created by a higher power and I do pray from time to time. I would not consider myself a Christian, though. My beliefs are different than most people’s.
“I believe in Spinoza’s God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings.”- Einstein
because they are stubborn, ignorant, and have too much pride and don’t want to be proved wrong in what they believe in. But deep, deep, deep, deep (x infinity) down, they know that it’s true, there is a God. People don’t realize it unless they are open-minded and willing to believe that there are things out there that we can’t see but they do exist.
“…choose not to believe…” No one chooses what they believe. If you choose what you believe, then you don’t really believe it, you just think you believe it. Don’t you think an omniscient god would know the difference?
Your basic premise is in error. You’re quote mining.Einstein had no use for christianity. He was,at best,a pantheist. Most christian leaders hated him and considered him to be in league with the devil.
To Einstein the Universe was god.
I suggest you learn more about Einstein.A trip to the library is in order. Also try Googling “Albert Einstein and Fulton Sheen”.Sheen was a famous bishop and foe of Einstein’s.
The more educated and intelligent a person is the more likely they’re to be an atheist.
No, he was not Christian.
He was possibly pantheist, often assumed atheist and never claimed to be Christian. He actually got a lot of hate mail from Christians: enough that there was a book written about it.
statistics show that atheists tend to have higher IQs than theists.
so you can throw your little einstein ‘theory’ out the window.
Still pedling your lies then!!
I am sure you klnow that the quote you use was a challenge to christians and not a statement of beleif!!
Your lies stain christianity!!
“I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.” – Einstein
The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this. – Einstein
I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own — a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms. – Einstein
False words are not only evil in themselves, but they infect the soul with evil. Plato
Surely by now you must realise you are booking an appointment with the devil with your lies?!!
speedy22, it was funny the first time I have to admit, but now its just annoying. Join BSI (Base for Secret Intelligence) and do something useful, you seem smart.
